4. Choose face stock by environment and package movement
Paper can provide a familiar print surface, while film materials may support moisture resistance, flexibility or transparency. The choice depends on the complete construction and use. A film face does not automatically make the printed image or adhesive waterproof.
For squeezable containers, test whether the face stock follows repeated flexing without edge stress or wrinkles. For clear labels, inspect the adhesive and print under the final product color and lighting.
5. Match adhesive to surface, curve and temperature
Adhesive selection should consider surface energy, texture, container radius, application temperature and service temperature. Tight curves and small diameters increase edge stress. Cold application can prevent a bond from developing even if later storage is warmer.

8. Use relevant standards as test context, not marketing decoration

10. Inspect die cutting, printing and roll build
Check color, text, registration, die position, corner radius, matrix removal, liner damage, roll tension, telescoping and quantity. Inspect both the roll and applied labels because defects may appear only after dispensing or wrapping around the container.
Use first-piece, in-process and final checks. For similar artwork versions, clear line clearance and carton identification are as important as print quality.
11. Diagnose failure before changing the entire construction
If edges lift, inspect curve, size, application pressure, cleanliness, temperature and dwell before changing adhesive. If print smears, separate ink and protective finish from bond performance. If wrinkles appear, examine container movement and face-stock dimensions.
A failure tree protects useful parts of the specification. Changing every component at once may create a passing sample without revealing the original cause, making repeat production harder to control.
12. Retain applied samples and test evidence
Save the approved roll, applied containers, artwork code, construction, die, roll setup and test results. Photograph edge condition and print after exposure. These records create first-hand evidence and make the next order easier to compare.
When the container supplier, filling process or storage condition changes, repeat the relevant tests. A label approval belongs to a defined application system, not to an isolated roll forever.
